Motion sensor INS MRU

IXBlue PHINS motion sensor

We own and operate the IXBLUE PHINS as a surface INS option. The PHINS has the same accuracies as the ROVINS and has been a proven performer in the industry over many years.

IXBLUE Technology - GAPS and ROVINS


We understand that multi-beam echo sounder data is only as good as the quality of the associated sub-sensors that comprise the MBES system.  This is particularly the case with the motion sensing system that is mated with the MBES sonar. This is why we have selected the IXBLUE ROVINS as our choice of motion sensor. The ROVINS is a combined survey grade full featured Inertial Navigation System (INS) that can be deployed on both vessels of opportunity and on ROV’s in depths up to 3,000m.

Posidonia long range USBL

IXBLUE POSIDONIA USBL II is an ultra-short baseline (USBL) acoustic positioning system for high-accuracy and ultra–long range tracking of subsea vehicles. It offers enhanced performance with a new electronic cabinet (USBL-Box) including the most recent iXBlue acoustic signal processing and full compatibility with RAMSES 6000 synthetic baseline positioning system.  It has a quoted accuracy of 0.2% slant range with a maximum range of 10,000m.

Underwater Positioning USBL


IXSURVEY owns and operates the IXBLUE GAPS system. The GAPS USBL is recognised in the industry as a great solution for any subsea positioning requirement. IXSURVEY has spent a number of years using the GAPS on projects that have a subsea positioning requirement; such as ROV operations, SSS, magnetometer and offshore construction.

Mark Sets up the GNSS

Global Navigation Satellite System 

IXSURVEY operates several different solutions to accurately position its survey vessels.  When operating in offshore waters, the Fugro MarineStar 9205 GNSS Receiver is used with the Fugro correction signal.  This solution provides reliable sub 30cm accuracies which is compliant with IHO S44 Special Order.

For high resolution surveys requiring even greater horizontal accuracy, shore based GNSS receivers can be deployed to provide for an RTK based solution or to allow for the post processing of data.

In many instances, IXSURVEY will establish a base station ashore to log GNSS data.  This allows for the post processing of positional data at the end of a field work phase and the application of this data in lieu of a WADGPS solution provided by the Fugro system.  It adds an extra degree of redundancy and delivers greater accuracies for minimal additional effort and cost.

IXBLUE RAMSES is an intelligent Acoustic Synthetic Baseline positioning system, combined with an inertial navigation system such as a PHINS or ROVINS that provides the highest grade position accuracy and redundancy.
